Not many car manufacturers can say they started out in the 1800s. Fiat is one of the few pioneers that has been pushing the boundaries of automotive innovation for well over 100 years, growing into one of the world’s most beloved brands.
Fiat has at various points in history been Italy’s leading car manufacturer, peaking in the 1970s and culminating in a merger with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles in 2014. Today, Fiat is a market leader in compact hatchbacks and panel vans, even launching a full-sized bakkie - the Fullback - in 2016.
All South Africans are familiar with the Fiat Uno, and many of these teency tin cans can still be seen darting along our roads. The Punto is another popular pre-owned model, but Fiat’s recent history has been dominated by the 500 range, which includes the chunky 500X and several Abarth performance models. The new range is rounded off by the Tipo, a hatchback option for those of us a bit too large for the tiny 500.
Thanks to the aforementioned merger, the local Fiat Chrysler Automobiles dealer network is extensive, meaning you don’t have to look far for your next service!
