Renault has done a superb job of shaking off the ‘unreliable’ label here in South Africa, and today the brand is one of the country’s top sellers thanks to beloved budget models like the Kwid and Sandero.
Much of that image shift is thanks to the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance, which now sells one in nine vehicles around the world.
The French manufacturer has been around for well over 100 years, and since then, models like the Renault 5, Clio, Megane, and Scenic have become common sights on South African roads. With the recent rise in popularity of SUVs, Renault has expanded its range to include chunkier cars like the Captur, Kadjar, and Nissan X-Trail-based Koleos.
One of the most popular local models is the Renault Duster, a tough tyke with surprising off-road capabilities and mind-blowing fuel efficiency.
Like its sister brand, Nissan, Renault is also focusing on electrification, and South Africans could soon see several battery-powered Renaults on our roads. Exciting times ahead!
